Repairing, Restoring and Repurposing Old Decking: Tips. Ideas and Facts

A deck is a beautiful outdoor asset to your home, and the right deck can make your living space seem larger. Hi, my name is Jackie, and I am a lover of all things related to the home. I enjoy decorating, repairing, restoring, and reading about ideas and even cleaning. Thanks to the success of our family business, I am able to work from home, and as I spend so much time here, I want it to look beautiful. If you want to have a beautiful home, I want to help you as well. In this blog, I am going to focus on decks in particular. I want to talk about repairing them, restoring them and reusing their old wood in new projects. If you want ideas or inspiration, I invite you to stay, take a look and enjoy these posts.

Tips on Selecting Metal Cutting Equipment for CNC Machining

Esperanza Arias

The metalworking industry has grown exponentially over the years, reducing the need for manual machining of custom commodities. This advance can be attributed to the invention and usage of computer numerical control equipment. The technology utilises computer programs incorporated in fabrication machines to translate design into metal products. This CNC machining is an advantageous process, particularly during cutting processes that require accuracy.

In simple terms, the CNC cutting machines are not handled by error-prone human hands, so the cuts are more precise compared to the blueprint. The equipment can also create complex shapes, which reduces the number of pieces that must be joined by welding or using fasteners. In addition, this is ideal for bulk production because the cuts produced are completely identical.  Here are the main CNC cutting machines to choose for both outsourced and in-house metal fabrication.

Mills

The traditional milling machine uses a rotary cutter to slice the metal work piece and remove the unwanted material. This equipment has remained popular because it can cut the raw materials from different directions at a time, enhancing flexibility. The CNC mill is designed to advance these functions of this traditional equipment. In simple terms, the CNC mill is not limited to cutting along the three standard linear axes, X, Y and Z. The machine can cut along rotational axes, making the process more versatile, particularly during fabrication of intricate goods. Additionally, a CNC mill can be utilised for other tasks such as drilling, tapping, turning and face milling.

Lathes

CNC lathes are designed to cut the work piece while it rotates around the cutters. This type of cutting equipment is beneficial in fabrication because the cutting edges can create fast and accurate cuts on the raw material. It is limited in terms of directional cutting compared to a milling machine. Generally, a lathe can rotate the material along the X or Y axis, so the machining is also limited to these directions. However, you should choose the CNC lathe if you are interested in a machine with an indexable tool. In simple terms, you can exchange the tips and attachments on the lathe, which will allow you to perform more diverse tasks.

Plasma Cutter

A CNC plasma cutter is a good choice for your metal fabrication project if the raw material is tough, like steel. Basically, the machine transforms inert gas into hot plasma using an electric arc. The main advantage of the CNC technology is the improved control over the potentially destructive plasma. Therefore, less preparation and outlines are required for success.
